Interdisciplinary Conference
with international participation

The School of Architecture, the School of Early Childhood Education and the "Total Quality Management and Innovative Implementations in Education" Master’s Program at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in collaboration with the School of Architecture at the National Technical University of Athens, the School of Architectural Engineering at the Technical University of Crete and the Department of Early Childhood Education at the University of Ioannina, jointly organize the Interdisciplinary Conference with international participation titled:

CHILDREN'S SPACES OR SPACES FOR CHILDREN?
When education intersects with the everyday life in the city
Thessaloniki, 19 - 21 Μay 2017
The children’s relationship with their educational spaces as well as with their urban environment suggests a particular challenge to the conditions of contemporary everyday life. The child-centered approach to living and learning gradually becomes more complex, moving towards a balanced yet polyvalently, polysemously and diversely dialectic, experiential and hands-on relationship with their environment, thus inviting architecture and pedagogy to take action and provide answers. This approach offers new possibilities to the imperative call of our times for reappraisal and for a reflective study on the children’s educational conditions which contribute to the creation of active citizens who are capable of critical thinking, collaborative activities, social awareness and attentiveness to the collective interest.
The objective of this interdisciplinary Conference with international participation is to pursue the dynamic osmosis of pedagogy with the design domain as well as the transformative oscillation between theory and practice, theoretical research and practical applications.
The Conference aims to contribute to the exploration of contemporary changing conditions in children's learning spaces as well as to a new pluralistic vision of the children’s relationship with the city.

Photographic Contest for Students
Taking Pictures of my School

The contest aims at presenting the “child’s view” on educational spaces, which constitute the context of everyday lives of children. Through the photographic lens, the children are invited to document whatever they consider as interesting: it could be the “most beautiful” part of the school space, or, on the contrary, the “ugliest” spot; it could be their favorite or their least favorite.

All pictures will be projected during the congress. After a selection process, some of them will also be presented in printed form, at the congress venue. In addition to this, there will be a prize (a digital camera) for the winner.

The schools that participate in the contest are: the 77th Grade School of Athens, the 3rd and 10th Grade Schools of Chania, The Experimental School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki-Grade School.
